Disordered Eating and Recovery

Approximately 68,000 New Zealanders will develop an eating disorder sometime in their life time. 68,000. That’s a huge number, especially when you think about how many people experiencing these illnesses feel like they have to hide them.
Being open about having an eating disorder can feel really scary, especially when you’re not sure how people will react. Working out who to tell, when and how can feel like a daunting task, and it may not always feel comfortable or safe to share with the people in your life. It may feel like it’s easier to just not tell anyone, and try deal with it on your own, but these illnesses can thrive in secrecy.
Continued Recovery is a new support group I’ve set up for women living in recovery from disordered eating. In this group, we’ve developed a safe, confidential space where people can talk openly about their experiences. Together, we’ll work on strategies to help with recovery, and also have plenty of discussion time, where you can share your experiences with other people who know exactly what you’re going through.
Recovering from an eating disorder is a hard journey, but you don't have to suffer in silence and it doesn’t have to be something you hide
Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at the Lower Hutt Women’s Centre (www.lhwc.org.nz) There is no cost for attending (although a $2 Koha for tea and coffee is appreciated). Please feel free to contact me or see the poster below for more information.
